Painting is a meditation for me. A way to close out the world and invite in only the distilled shapes, light, and colors of my choosing. With watercolor as my medium, I create mostly still-lifes of ordinary objects or favorite things collected over a long time. Old glass bottles, a clay marble, gourds and produce and fresh flowers from the garden, bird nests and other found objects, old mismatched tea cups and saucers, Victorian

wedding shoes, German blue-and-white pottery, French antique cloth, and especially blue ticking. Occasionally a cat gets into the frameā€¦ When I paint, I forget about work. I forget the time. There is nothing but looking and thinking and moving the brush. With each new attempt, I make some mistakes, learn something new, and get more insight. It's both humbling and inspiring. Doing this is a privilege and a joy.
